༄ Qi, Shen, Spirit Calming Tonic ༄

Fu Shen Poria is a unique saprophytic fungal tuber found growing underground on decaying pine roots. It is revered in Classical Chinese herbalism as a beauty tonic and is known to clear dampness from the middle jiao and produce an overall calming effect. Fu Shen is the innermost part of the fungus, growing right around the pine roots. It is closely related to Fu Ling Poria, the outer portion of the fungal tuber.

Fu Ling Poria, the white fleshy outer portion of the sclerotium, is traditionally thought to benefit the middle and lower jiaos (the digestive organs and organs of elimination).

Fu Shen Spirit Poria, the innermost portion of the sclerotium that contains the pine root hostwood, is considered a special Shen tonic that offers the bonus actions of calming the heart and spirit. It possesses anxiolytic properties that may help soothe stress while improving digestion and clearing dampness from the midsection.

Poria has been extensively studied for it's anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating benefits. It is commonly thought of as a diuretic in Traditional Chinese Medicine, however, it also possesses vastly multidirectional actions, making it a great daily tonic for balancing some constitutions.  It is often used in conjunction with other herbs to clear dampness from the body, tonifying the kidneys and invigorating the middle jiao (midsection). There are fables of women within the Chinese nobility who would primarily eat a diet of Poria to keep a slim figure with illustrious healthy skin. However, Fu Shen is typically used in conjunction with other herbs in Tonic Teas. It brings a neutral and sweet quality to formulas, and we often use it in Custom Tonics for women seeking metabolic support and stress relief.
